By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Kicking Aces emerged as new titleholders in the Belize Tennis Association (BTA) Team Tournament, defeating the defending champions, Garden City Gladiators 3-0on Sunday at the Pickwick Tennis Courts in Belize City.
Twenty players from six teams battled through a demanding round-robin stage, culminating in a final showdown between Kicking Aces and Garden City Gladiators. The final, adhering to a best-of-five format (two men’s singles, one women’s singles, one men’s doubles, and one mixed doubles), saw Kicking Aces secure a decisive 3-0 victory after the first three matches.
The results of the decisive matches were:
* Men’s Singles A: Juan Carlos Ponsa defeated Trevor Searle 6-3.
* Men’s Singles B: Samron Pott defeated Orlando Suarez 6-5.
* Women’s Singles: Samira Musa Pott defeated Nazlie Williams 6-2.
With these wins, Kicking Aces, comprised of Samron Pott, Samira Musa Pott, and Juan Carlos Ponsa, clinched the 2025 championship. Garden City Gladiators, featuring Mike Sosa, Orlando Suarez, Nazlie Williams, and Trevor Searle, took the runners-up position.
