By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean cyclist Kent ‘Bob’ Gabourel delivered an outstanding performance at the 2024 Pan-American Masters’ Championships in El Salvador, securing second place in the 40-44 years category in the Individual Time Trial on Wednesday, October 23.

Gabourel, who has represented Belize internationally in both cycling and triathlon, clocked 31 minutes, 23.959 seconds (31:23.959), finishing behind Brazilian Alves da Silva, who was timed at 26:50.475.

Robert Liam Stewart also performed admirably, claiming fourth place in the 55-59 years category with a time of 20:46.595. The winner in this category was Brazilian Hely Perez, who clocked 18:55.178. Meanwhile, Roque Matus secured sixth place in the 50-54 years category with a time of 22:54.939. The winner in this category was Chilean Robinson Miranda, who finished in 19:33.991.

Despite a long journey and late arrival in El Salvador, the three Belizean athletes rose to the occasion, representing Belize with pride and excellence.

“They had a long travel [on Tuesday] and arrived almost midnight in El Salvador and had to be ready for their start early [Wednesday] morning. Great job in representing the Jewel!” the Cycling Federation of Belize said in congratulating Gabourel, Stewart, and Matus for their outstanding performances in the regional cycling competition.
