By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 21-year-old Belize City resident, Kenroy Locario, remains behind bars after being granted bail he was unable to meet following a court hearing in which his charges were reduced.
Locario, who was escorted from the Belize Central Prison to court, received a reprieve when two serious charges, including attempted murder, were withdrawn and replaced with a single charge of wounding in relation to injuries caused to a man who was stabbed. He was subsequently re-arraigned on the lesser charge.
The matter stems from a stabbing incident reported on August 26 on Raccoon Street Extension, where police found a man suffering from injuries. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he later provided a statement identifying his attacker as a man he knew by face. Police say the victim later identified Locario as the individual responsible.
In court, Chief Magistrate granted Locario bail in the sum of $4,000 plus two sureties of $2,000 each. Conditions of his bail include that he must not apply for travel documents, cannot leave the country without court permission, must stay at least 100 yards away from the virtual complainant, observe a curfew between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., and report regularly to the Raccoon Street Police Station.
However, despite being granted bail, Locario was unable to meet the conditions by the end of the day and was remanded back to prison. During proceedings, he told the court he had been incarcerated for months and had not been able to see or speak with his family.
The court also provided Locario with 12 pages of disclosure, and his case management conference is scheduled for May 26, 2026.
Locario has prior convictions. In August 2025, he pleaded guilty to charges of harm and throwing missiles after an incident involving a woman, who is a security officer at the Central Bank of Belize. He was sentenced to three months and three weeks imprisonment for that matter.
