By Breaking Belize News Staff: A family dispute between two women who are reportedly sisters has landed one of them before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of aggravated assault with a knife.
Thirty-nine-year-old Elisabeth Higinio, an employee of the Sister Cecilia’s Home, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate this week, where she was read a single charge of aggravated assault. She pleaded not guilty.
The allegation is that on Monday, May 11, 2026, in Belize City, Higinio intentionally and unlawfully committed an aggravated assault upon Jennifer Higinio.
During her arraignment, Elisabeth became emotional and told the court that Jennifer had been bullying her on social media. She claimed the issue had been ongoing and that she had gone to the police station about two months ago to make a report, but nothing came of it.
“My sister. She was bullying me on social media,” Elisabeth told the court. She also said that even while she was in the cell block, she was still being bullied online.
The prosecutor encouraged Higinio to visit the Professional Standards Bureau if she wished to make a complaint about officers allegedly refusing to take her report.
According to police facts, Jennifer Higinio, 41, reported that around 7:15 p.m. on Monday, she was walking on Kelly Street in Belize City with Lovenia Higinio when they saw Elisabeth walking toward them. Jennifer alleged that Elisabeth looked at her and said, “Keep the same energy, b***h.”
Jennifer reportedly asked, “What energy?” and Elisabeth allegedly replied, “I dah just stab you up right now.”
Jennifer further alleged that Elisabeth took an object from her scrub pocket, flicked it open, and she realized it was a knife. She claimed Elisabeth then pointed the knife in her direction and said, “I got a mind to just stab up you right now.”
Jennifer told police she feared for her life and went to make a report, requesting court action.
There was no objection to bail, and Elisabeth Higinio was offered bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount. As part of her bail conditions, she must keep away from the virtual complainant and must not come within 25 feet of her.
The court warned her that failure to follow the bail conditions could result in her bail being revoked and her being remanded to prison until trial.
