By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Sagitun GIRLZ standout Karisah Coe has been named the 2025 Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Championship Most Valuable Player, following her crucial role in the team’s successful title campaign.
Coe’s defensive brilliance was a key factor in Sagitun GIRLZ’s unbeaten season and championship victory. She played a pivotal role in Saturday’s final match at Michael Ashcroft Stadium, where her team secured a 0-0 draw against Napoles FC to win the title with a 2-0 aggregate score.
Coe’s leadership on the field, alongside defenders Jasha Bernardez, Premille Hope, and Marceli Mar, ensured that Sagitun GIRLZ maintained one of the strongest defensive records in PWLB history, allowing just four goals throughout the season.
The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) also recognized other outstanding players and teams during the post-match awards ceremony.
Here are the PWLB 2025 award winners:
- Best Goalkeeper: Jasmin Armstrong – Sagitun GIRLZ
- Best Defender: Stephanie Barrientos – Napoles FC
- Best Midfielder: Sabrina Eiley – Sagitun GIRLZ
- Most Goals: Khalydia Velasquez – Jewel Fury
- Fair Play Award: Jewel Fury
Saturday’s final capped an extraordinary season for Sagitun GIRLZ, who dominated their competition with commanding victories, including a 24-0 aggregate win over Cayo Dreamers in the semifinals.
While Napoles FC fought hard to claim the championship, they ultimately fell short, finishing as the 2025 PWLB Subchampions.
Though this marks their first PWLB title (in just the second season of the league’s existence), Sagitun GIRLZ are no strangers to championship glory. They previously won the National Amateur Women’s League, which held the same significance as the PWLB before its transition. Their latest triumph reinforces their standing as one of Belize’s top women’s football teams.
