By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Kareem Musa has pushed back against commentary suggesting that his reassignment to the Ministry of Immigration, Governance, and Labor is a downgrade. Speaking on Thursday with the press, Musa said clearly that his new Immigration portfolio is “a promotion,” arguing that the ministry plays a crucial role in national security, public trust, and economic growth. Musa previously served five years as Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, a position that placed him at the helm of policing and innovation initiatives.

Musa said Immigration is an area where Belizeans consistently demand improved service, more efficiency, and greater transparency. He stated that the new posting allows him to drive these reforms with urgency. In his remarks, Musa laid out his intention to collaborate with international partners to strengthen system integrity while simultaneously making immigration processes significantly more accessible.

He described outdated procedures as a hurdle for the Belizean public and said digital modernization will be a priority. Musa explained that while previous administrations did extensive groundwork, the next step is to move the entire system into a more modern era: linking Immigration with the Ministry of Labor to ensure streamlined services across departments. According to Musa, better digitization, clearer oversight, and additional safeguards will help keep corruption at bay.

Musa insisted that the broader mandate, covering Immigration, Labor, and Governance, represents a step upward because it involves managing essential national systems that impact thousands of Belizeans daily. He said the focus now is on strengthening service delivery and ensuring the public sees real improvements in efficiency and accountability.
