By Rubén Morales Iglesias: L39ion of Los Angeles rider Jyven Gonzalez continued his blistering early‑season form on Sunday, winning the 2nd Annual Rumble in the Tropics just one week after capturing the Alfred Parks Memorial 95‑mile race. Gonzalez completed the 100‑mile course from Esso Xaibel Service Station just outside Dangriga to Belize City in a record‑breaking 4:15:08, erasing the previous mark of 4:21:08 set by Goran Gabourel on March 23, 2025.

The event, organized by the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) with the sponsorship of the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), brought together Elite, U23, and Masters riders in a single open field. Of the 31 starters, 25 finished within the time limit, with three riders classified Over the Time Limit (OTL) and seven Did Not Start (DNS).

A new benchmark for the 100mile route

Gonzalez’s 4:15:08 not only secured the win but also set a new standard for the Dangriga‑to‑Belize City course, improving the record by six minutes. His back‑to‑back victories over two weekends confirm him as the rider to beat heading into the next major events on the national calendar.
