Press Release

Belize City, Belize- Chief Justice, Honourable Mde. Louise Esther Blenman and the Judicial Education Institute (JEI) of the Senior Courts in Belize, in collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) are pleased to announce that the JEI will host a specialised two-day Training Workshop on Judicial Ethics.

Galen University

The Workshop is fixed for Tuesday, 23rd September 2025 and Wednesday, 24th September 2025, at the Senior Courts of Belize. This crucial training is designed to equip judges, magistrates, registrars and judicial assistants with the knowledge and skills necessary to strengthen integrity in their daily work.

The Workshop will feature distinguished international, regional, and local jurists and facilitators.  It is expected to be a highly impactful event, promoting the exchange of ethical standards and best practices within the judiciary, while further strengthening the principles of integrity, independence, and impartiality.

Participants will engage in sessions addressing international standards such as the United Nations Convention against Corruption, the Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct, and Belize’s updated Judicial Code of Ethics. They will engage in active exchanges on the implications of new technologies, including social media and artificial intelligence, for judicial integrity, while exploring the relationship between judicial ethics, judicial well-being, and the promotion of gender equality in access to justice. Comparative experiences from other jurisdictions will be presented alongside practical, case-based exercises.

The Workshop accentuates the JEI’s commitment to continuously upholding the highest ethical standards in the judiciary. By combining theory with practice, the JEI aims to ensure that all judicial officers are equipped to address emerging ethical challenges, reinforce public trust in the courts, and align with international best practices.
