By Aaron Humes: Joseph Budna appeared this morning in Belmopan Magistrate’s Court on a charge of abetment to murder for a killing reported in the capital three years ago.
But as he was being led away by police, he told reporters that the State is out to get him and that he fears being found dead in his prison cell.
Budna is accused of assisting in the death of a Guatemalan national, Armando Coy Cacao, in July of 2021.
But according to the sometime freelance journalist, when he did a live broadcast on social media on Friday, the State wanted revenge.
As he was locked in a police vehicle, Budna loudly insisted the charges were false and there was no evidence to back them, and reiterating that he was standing up for what is right – despite his numerous run-ins with the law over the years.
There is no indication if he has legal representation.
