By Zoila Palma: Jose Abelardo Mai of the People’s United Party (PUP) won a decisive victory in the Orange Walk South constituency in the 2025 General Election, securing 3,462 votes, or 64.19% of the total vote.
Meanwhile, German Tillett of the United Democratic Party (UDP), garnered 1,931 votes, which amounts to 35.81%.
Mai’s victory marks a strong showing in the area where he dominated voting in several key villages.
In San Felipe Village, he won 471 votes compared to UDP’s 300.
Indian Church Village saw a resounding win for Mai with 150 votes to 31, while Blue Creek Village gave him a significant margin, 149 to just 2.
Other strong results for Mai included San Lazaro Village, where he secured 417 votes to UDP’s 154, and Yo Creek Village, where he won 580 votes to 270. In August Pine Ridge Village, he garnered 477 votes compared to UDP’s 372, and in Trinidad Village, he won 241 votes to 172.
The largest margin of victory was in Guinea Grass Village, where Mai received 977 votes, far outpacing UDP’s 629.
With a margin of 1,531 votes, or 28.38%, Mai’s victory reflects widespread support across the constituency.
