By Zoila Palma:  On March 12, 2025, voters in Orange Walk South will head to the polls to elect their next Area Representative.

The race is heating up between incumbent Jose Abelardo Mai and challenger German Tillett.

Mai, a dedicated public servant, has worked tirelessly for the people of Orange Walk South.

As the current Minister of Agriculture, he has been a strong advocate for Belize’s food security, with a particular focus on supporting local farmers. His efforts to boost cattle exports and prioritize the needs of farmers and industries in Belize have earned him a reputation as a champion for agriculture.

On the other hand, German Tillett, a bus conductor and cane cutter, is positioning himself as a representative with a commitment to the agricultural community and is focusing on improving healthcare in Orange Walk South.

As Election Day approaches, residents will decide whether Mai’s proven leadership or Tillett’s vision for change will better serve their community.
