Press Release
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) and the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) held a meeting on Thursday, December 4, which resulted in the signing of a joint statement reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening the education system and improving the welfare, professional growth, and working conditions of teachers across Belize.
The Ministry remains steadfast in safeguarding the rights and well-being of all educators. Both MoECST and the BNTU recognise the importance of continuous professional development, transparent processes, and sustained collaboration. Together, both partners are committed to ensuring an education system that effectively serves students, educators, parents, and administrators while contributing to national development.
In alignment with this shared vision, the Ministry and the BNTU have agreed to the following actions:
- Advancing work on HOD allowances and CPD requirements for teacher licensing
- Streamlining the Teacher Transfer Grant approval process
- Creating a temporary cross-level licensing pathway
- Embedding teacher welfare programs in the Education Sector Plan 2026–2030
- Formalising payments for teachers covering additional credit hours
- Launching a digital platform for teacher concerns
- Ensuring access to all benefits and allowances for eligible teachers
- Exploring Early Childhood Education Programs with Walden University
MoECST remains committed to ongoing dialogue and collaboration. To ensure accountability and monitor progress on these commitments, the Ministry and its partners will convene quarterly follow-up sessions—or more frequently, if necessary.
