Job alert: BAHA seeks Import and Export Coordinator, salary up to $57,000

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) is on the hunt for a qualified professional to join its Food Safety Services team, opening applications for the position of Import & Export Coordinator.

The successful candidate will play a central role in safeguarding the food that enters and leaves the country. According to BAHA, the coordinator will oversee the preparation, approval, and issuance of import permits and export certificates for processed food commodities, conduct import risk analyses to evaluate and approve foods coming into Belize, develop import conditions based on risk analysis principles, and monitor how well imported foods comply with those conditions.

To qualify, applicants must hold a Master’s Degree in Life Sciences such as Biology, Chemistry, or Agriculture, or a Bachelor’s Degree in one of those fields backed by at least five years of job-related experience.

Candidates should be computer literate, particularly in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint, with solid skills in data management and analysis. A valid class “A” driver’s license is also required.

BAHA is looking for someone who can competently carry out food safety import risk analyses in line with Codex principles, evaluate HACCP plans, conduct sanitary audits of foreign food and feed processing establishments, and demonstrate sound knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and Good Importation Practices. Strong communication, public relations, and data analysis skills round out the profile, along with a commitment to working as part of a team.

The role is graded on BAHA Pay Scale 18, which starts at $31,189.22 and rises by annual increments of $1,359.60 to a maximum of $57,021.62. The station of duty is the Central Investigation Laboratory.
