By Aaron Humes: The family of 33-year-old Jeremy Mushlar is clinging to hope as search efforts continue for the missing fisherman. Mushlar was reported missing on Tuesday night after he chose to remain out at sea while his fishing companions returned to shore near Tobacco Caye due to poor luck.
Last Thursday, Mushlar’s sister voiced her family’s deep concern over his disappearance, expressing fear for his safety as they awaited news of his return. Over the weekend, their anxiety intensified with the grim discovery of an unidentified male body found east of Dangriga, near Thatch Caye.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hilberto Romero addressed reporters regarding the ongoing investigation into the unidentified body. “On Saturday, April 18, 2025, Dangriga Police responded to reports of a body found. Upon arrival, they discovered the decomposed body of a male,” said ACP Romero. He confirmed that the remains were taken to the morgue and that authorities are currently working to establish the individual’s identity.
In response to inquiries regarding the condition of the body, Romero stated, “No injuries were observed, but we are awaiting the post-mortem examination,” indicating that further details about cause of death or identity will only be confirmed after the autopsy. Reporters questioned the estimated age of the deceased, to which Romero replied, “I cannot say. That will be determined by the postmortem examination.”
The postmortem is anticipated to take place later this week.
