By Breaking Belize News Staff: The High Court continues to deliberate on a suitable custodial arrangement for Jayme Marin, who has been deemed unfit to stand trial for the murder and attempted murder of his cousins on Caye Caulker. Justice Nigel Pilgrim has been hearing testimony from experts and witnesses to determine an appropriate placement for Marin, who has been classified as mentally unfit by psychiatric evaluation.
During today’s hearing, defense attorney Arthur Saldivar called psychologist Dr. Crystal Ke, who has worked with the Kolbe Foundation for three years. Dr. Ke testified that Marin exhibits “active religious delusions” and that while he is aware of them, his condition influences his behavior and compliance with treatment. She further noted that supervised family visits outside of prison may not necessarily ensure adherence to medication or therapy.
Saldivar has one more expert witness, Dr. Michael Medina, who has been subpoenaed to testify on April 2, 2025. Justice Pilgrim is expected to make a ruling on Marin’s placement following the conclusion of witness testimonies.
