Jalen Myers returns to defend title at ‘King of the Pitch” 1v1 Football Showdown Saturday
By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The turf at Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City will ignite with fierce competition this Saturday, July 12, as 16 of Belize’s most electrifying footballers go head-to-head in the second edition of “King of the Pitch”, a 1v1 football tournament founded by Phillip Goodson III.
The event kicks off at 5:00 pm, promising a thrilling evening of skill, speed, and showmanship. With $2,000 cash on the line for the champion, the pressure is on for every player to bring their A-game.
Jalen Myers won the first King of the Pitch on October 13,2024.
– 16 players and 2 goalkeepers will compete in a knockout-style bracket.
– Each match lasts 10 minutes, with players racing to score 3 goals out of a possible 5 to advance.
– Lose a round, and you’re out—no second chances.
The first eight matchups will be drawn and announced at the start of the event, setting the stage for a night of unpredictable clashes and breakout performances.
While the spotlight shines on the outfield players, the two goalkeepers—whose names are yet to be revealed—will play a crucial role in deciding each duel. Each keeper will receive $150 for their participation, recognizing their vital contribution to the tournament’s intensity.
