Jailhouse rock? 3 stooges busted selling crack in jail

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Three inmates accused of being found with suspected cocaine inside a prison cell have been returned to custody following their appearance in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

The accused are Rafael Cal, 55, of Punta Gorda; Ashton Cal, 21; and Iran Moguel, 49, of Orange Walk Town. The trio appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #3, where they were served with 14 pages of disclosure in their case.

A trial date has been set for Friday, February 13, 2026.

The men were jointly arraigned on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, on a single charge each of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, involving 10 grams of suspected crack cocaine, allegedly intended for drug trafficking.

All three pleaded not guilty to the charge. As they are already on remand for other matters, no bail was offered, and they were further remanded to the Belize Central Prison pending the commencement of their trial.

Proceedings took place at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.
