By Breaking Belize News Staff: Jaheim Bent, a 22-year-old stevedore from Plues Street, is serving a prison term of up to four months. Bent appeared before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola in Court #1, charged with aggravated assault with a firearm on a 17-year-old minor. The incident occurred on May 26, 2024, when Bent allegedly fired several shots at the minor but missed.
Bent, who pleaded guilty, explained that he had no one to bail him out and hoped for a fine instead of jail time. However, the Chief Magistrate sentenced him to four months for the assault, noting the seriousness of the crime. An additional three months were added for an unpaid fine from a previous conviction, bringing his total sentence to seven months.
