A first Premier League goal for 18-year-old Jack Hinshelwood, a fourth-generation professional who joined Brighton’s academy aged seven, gave his home-town team a lead that they rarely threatened to surrender as the Seagulls took three points on the south coast.
Hinshelwood, who had featured in Brighton’s last three matches, started at right-back but headed home Pascal Gross’s cross in the 52nd minute with an assurance of which his teen teammate, striker Evan Ferguson, would have been proud.
