‘I’ve never tried to hurt anybody’: no regrets for Henderson on Ajax arrival

Jordan Henderson said he had “never intended to hurt anybody” in making his short-lived move to Saudi Arabia, but refused to admit regret as he was presented as an Ajax player in Amsterdam.

A notably relaxed Henderson was full of smiles as he spoke to the media at the Johan Cruyff Arena. He even laughed when one Dutch journalist described him as having “aged like a fine English wine”. But on the ethical issues raised by his move to Al-Ettifaq, the former Liverpool captain stuck to the script and declined the opportunity to say he would reach out to LGBTQ+ fans who had felt betrayed by the transfer.
