Isabella Lovestory: new underground queen of reggaeton

In “Singers to absolutely follow in 2024, from Tyla to Mitski” [Ces chanteuses à suivre absolument en 2024, de Tyla à Mitski] Violaine Schütz (Numéro) reviews Honduran DJ, singer, songwriter Isabella Lovestory (above, left). [See below for blurb by Iván Guzmán (PAPER).]

Originally from Honduras and based in Montreal, Isabella Lovestory, 30, embodies the missing link between Kali Uchis and Rosalía. The singer-songwriter and avant-garde DJ, with a very erotic, playful and Y2K universe, offers in her first album, Amor Hardcore, released in 2022, a provocative pop matinee of reggaeton and dancehall, cut—with producer Mura Masa—for endless nights spent within the walls of a club with a sulfurous atmosphere.

Here Schütz shares “Fuetazo,” a single by Isabella Lovestory, featuring Puerto Rican singer Villano Antillano.

Meanwhile, Iván Guzmán (PAPER), writes:

Their new song “Fuetazo,” which roughly translates to ‘a hard punch or blow,’ cements their status as bad bitches of the sea. Embodying their true form as mermaids, the Honduran perreo pop princess and buzzy Puerto Rican rapstress come together in a moment of true “bokisucia” bliss, tag-teaming over an infectious reggaeton beat by Kamixlo, Dinamarca, and frequent Lovestory collaborator Chicken.
