Irene Baki took third place in the Junior Female Road Race at the Caribbean Cycling Union’s 2025 Championships in Christ Church, Barbados, on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s Irene Baki secured a well-earned third place on Sunday morning in the Junior Female Road Race at the Caribbean Cycling Union’s 2025 Junior Road Championships in Christ Church, Barbados. Her bronze medal capped a weekend of consistent form, following a fourth-place finish in Saturday’s Individual Time Trial.

Baki completed the road race in 2:10:43, trailing Martinique’s Dahlia Reine (2:05:58) and Bermuda’s Charlotte Millington (2:06:02). The four-minute gap to the winner reflected the intensity of the pace and the tactical demands of the mass-start event, which featured top junior cyclists from across the region.

Belize’s other entrant in the Junior Female Road Race, Chelsy Gillett, did not finish. She had started strong but was officially listed as DNF.

In the Juvenile Female category, Lianni Choto placed 5th with a time of 2:09:51—just over 33 seconds behind Barbados’ Alexis Lashley, who won the race in 2:09:18. Choto held steady in a tightly packed field that included strong showings from Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.

Saturday’s time trial saw Baki narrowly miss the podium, placing fourth behind medalists from Bermuda and Martinique.

In the Junior Men’s division, Keith A. Enwright Jr. matched that result, finishing fourth behind Puerto Rico, Martinique, and Antigua. Both athletes battled through a technical 5.7-kilometer course that tested the region’s best young cyclists.

Team Belize—featuring Chelsy Gillett, Lianni Choto, Jamaal Tablada, Keith Enwright Jr, Irene Baki, and Devyn Major—was officially presented on Friday in Bridgetown, proudly wearing national colours alongside Cycling Federation of Belize President Glen Flowers and team chaperone Rita Matute née Thompson.

With Baki’s bronze and three fourth-place finishes, Belize’s junior cyclists demonstrated grit and rising competitiveness on the regional stage. The 2025 championships featured athletes from 18 nations, with the Graeme Hall Course in Christ Church serving as a proving ground for the Caribbean’s emerging talent.
