By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former UDP Chairman Alberto August says that tensions due to the conflict in the Middle East is a contributing factor to rising fuel costs in Belize.

But, August says that it is not the only factor.

“It has now been confirmed that the opposition UDP, since the budget presentation, as joined the PUP Government in seeking to convince the Belizean people that high fuel prices in Belize is as a result of the war in Iran and that there is nothing the PUP government can do to ease the burden on the Belizean people.

While the war in Iran might be a contributing factor, the accumulating taxes on fuel in Belize is the main culprit.

The problem is however that the most effective way of bring immediate relief to the Belizean people is to lower government taxes on fuel,” August explained.

August says that the Briceno administration is “depositing one million dollars per month in the bank accounts of all 31 persons sitting in the House of Representatives for which they DO NOT have to account.”

The former UDP chairman suggests suspending that expenditure immediately and pass it on to lowering fuel prices.
“Reduce allowances across the board for ALL Area Representatives, Senators and CEO which should save another million dollars per month.

The suspension of the unaccounted Community Development Fund and other wasteful expenditures will never happen because it will immediately affect the overflowing bank accounts of those 31 persons sitting in the House of Representatives and so we hear them singing to the tune of oppression, blaming the war in Iran and throwing their hands up in the air in defeat while they continue to milk the “magga” cow in times of famine and crisis,” August added.

August says that there “is no hope for Belizeans in this current form of governance.”
