By Aaron Humes: Police conducted a search operation that led to the discovery of a firearm in a drain near Queen Square Primary School. A shooting, which occurred early on December 25, at approximately midnight, prompted a thorough investigation by Special Branch.

A Police corporal conducted the search based on gathered intelligence relevant to the shooting. On December 26, he returned to the scene and began exploring the drain in front of the school. During the search, he uncovered a black object submerged in mud and water.

Upon retrieval, it was determined that the object was a black 9mm Hi-Power Industria Argentina handgun, lacking a serial number. Alongside the firearm, a black metal magazine was discovered, though it was reported to be empty.

Police secured the scene to conduct further investigations, and the firearm has since been labeled and sealed for transport to the National Forensic Science Services. Testing will be conducted to gather more information that could assist in the ongoing investigation related to the recent incident.

Further updates are expected as the police work to establish a connection between the firearm and the shooting that occurred in the area previously.
