By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On the anniversary of Hamas’s deadly attack on Israel, residents of Gaza face extreme hardship, exhausted from a year of war and displacement.
According to AFP, Gaza City, now nearly unrecognizable, is marked by destruction, with 92% of roads and over 84% of health facilities reported damaged or destroyed by the ongoing conflict.
Hussam Mansour, surrounded by rubble, lamented the scarcity of basic necessities, saying, “Food is almost non-existent.”
The United Nations reports that around 90% of Gaza’s 2.4 million residents have been displaced at least once.
Many, like Muhammad al-Muqayyid, expressed disbelief at the war’s duration, stating, “A year has gone and we have seen every kind of suffering.”
As the Israeli military continues operations in Gaza, Hamas remains defiant, launching rockets at Israel.
Meanwhile, the plight of Gazans continues, with little hope for relief or resolution in sight.
