By Zoila Palma: Venezuela has received $300 million from oil sales linked to a 50-million-barrel supply deal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, interim President Delcy Rodriguez said today.
The funds represent the first proceeds from the arrangement following the capture of President Nicolas Maduro earlier this month, Reuters report.
Trump said the United States had taken the oil and was selling some on the open market, though shipping records show the full volume has not yet been exported.
Rodriguez said the $300 million is part of an initial $500 million tranche and will be used through Venezuela’s exchange market to stabilize the economy.
The money will be channeled via national banks and the central bank to support foreign-exchange access for companies and protect workers’ incomes and purchasing power.
