By Zoila Palma: Scores of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) staff were turned away from their Washington headquarters Monday, even after a court temporarily blocked a Trump administration order that would have placed most workers on leave worldwide.
Staffers, confused by conflicting instructions, showed up to find a list of only 10 employees allowed to enter, AP reports.
Some workers were denied access to retrieve personal items, and many were told to “just go” by security. The Trump administration’s efforts to scale back USAID, alongside similar orders for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, have led to widespread disruption.
A federal judge had temporarily halted the order that would have sent USAID staff home, restoring email access for some, though the headquarters remained closed.
A hearing is set for Wednesday to discuss further actions.
