By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The United States has condemned the recent attacks by armed groups in Ecuador.
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that the U.S. is committed to cooperating with partners to bring perpetrators to justice.
According to Reuters, inmates were holding more than 130 prison guards and other staff hostage in at least 5 prisons.
Meanwhile, hundreds of police in Ecuador are searching for convicted gang leader Adolfo Macías Villamar “Fito”, the leader of Los Choneros gang who disappeared from inside his prison cell on Sunday.
And on Wednesday, armed masked men took over a TV station live on air and explosions erupted around the country.
“We strongly condemn the recent criminal attacks by armed groups in Ecuador against private, public, & government institutions,” Sullivan stated.
Ecuador’s president, Daniel Noboa has waged a war on gangs naming 22 gangs as terrorist organizations, making them official military targets.
