By Zoila Palma: This morning, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. has captured Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and launched a “large-scale” strike against the country.
According to BBC, U.S.Attorney General Pam Bondi indicated that Maduro has been indicted in New York on drugs and weapons charges and will “face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts”
Meanwhile, Venezuela has declared a national emergency, denouncing “extremely serious military aggression”
Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello is urgning citizens to remain calm and to trust the country’s leadership and military. Reuters news agency cites him as saying: “The world needs to speak out about this attack.”
A statement from U.S. President Donald Trump says that Maduro and his wife were detained and flown out of Venezuela.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.
“This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” the statement said.
