International News: United Nations warn Gaza aid still critically low amid looting and ongoing airstrikes

By Zoila Palma:  The United Nations has warned that only a “teaspoon” of aid is reaching Gaza, despite Israel easing its blockade earlier this week.

At least six Palestinians guarding aid convoys were reportedly killed in Israeli airstrikes, as looting continues to hamper the delivery of food and medical supplies, Reuters report.

Since Monday, 305 aid trucks have entered Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing, far short of the 500–600 trucks per day that the UN says are urgently needed. Looting by armed groups, especially near Khan Younis, has worsened the crisis, with the World Food Programme reporting 15 flour trucks hijacked.

Hamas officials say the looters are disrupting vital aid efforts and that Israeli strikes have targeted their security escorts. Israel, however, claims these “guards” are militants interfering with aid distribution.

International pressure is mounting on Israel to increase aid flow.

A U.S.-backed system with private contractors is set to launch, but the UN has declined to participate, citing concerns over political control.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continue, with at least 25 more Palestinians reported killed overnight.
