By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Ukraine carried out its largest drone attack on Moscow on Sunday, sending at least 34 drones into the Russian capital, Reuters report.
The strike disrupted air traffic, forcing flight diversions at three major airports—Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky—and resulted in at least five injuries.
Russian air defenses intercepted another 50 drones over western Russia, according to Moscow’s defense ministry.
The attack prompted a swift response from Russia, which claimed to have thwarted an attempt by Ukraine to carry out a “terrorist” attack using drone technology. The airports resumed operations after the disruptions.
This strike marks a significant escalation in the use of drones in the ongoing war.
Moscow, one of Europe’s largest metropolitan areas, has been fortified with air defense systems, while both Russia and Ukraine have heavily relied on drone warfare to target military and infrastructure sites.
In retaliation, Russia launched 145 drones overnight, with Ukraine claiming to have downed 62 of them.
Ukrainian forces also targeted an ammunition depot in the Bryansk region, where 14 Russian drones were reportedly shot down.
