By Zoila Palma: U.S. naval forces have destroyed a fourth suspected drug-smuggling vessel in the Caribbean as part of a military campaign against narcotics networks, President Donald Trump announced Friday.
He said the strike targeted a boat allegedly tied to a designated terrorist organization and transporting drugs along a known smuggling corridor, Miami Herald reports.
Three men were killed in the operation, while no American personnel were harmed.
Trump revealed the action in a statement on Truth Social, framing it as part of his administration’s broader effort to combat narcotrafficking and foreign actors he described as threats to U.S. communities.
“On my orders, the Secretary of War ordered a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel affiliated with a Designated Terrorist Organization conducting narcotrafficking in the USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility,” he wrote, later adding a warning to criminal networks: “STOP SELLING FENTANYL, NARCOTICS, AND ILLEGAL DRUGS IN AMERICA, AND COMMITTING VIOLENCE AND TERRORISM AGAINST AMERICANS!!!”
The strike raises the death toll from U.S. counter-narcotics operations in the region to 17 since Trump ordered an expanded naval presence in the Caribbean, including eight warships, fighter jets, and thousands of service members.
