International News: U.S. says war with Iran will end “on our timeline,” as fighting intensifies

By Zoila Palma:  U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the United States will not relent in its war with Iran until the enemy is “totally and decisively defeated,” stressing that the conflict will end on the United States’ timeline.

U.S. President Donald Trump also commented on Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has reportedly been tapped to succeed his father, the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The U.S. president said he does not believe the new leader can “live in peace.”

So far, Mojtaba Khamenei has not released a video message or written statement since assuming the role, CNN reports.

Meanwhile, the conflict escalated overnight as Israel launched what it described as a “broad wave” of strikes in Iran’s capital, Tehran.

Residents reported intense bombardment, with one describing “constant shelling,” while another said the attack felt like one of the worst nights since the conflict began.

More than 1,700 people have died across the Middle East since the fighting started.
