By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: U.S. President Joe Biden is awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 individuals, recognizing their contributions to American society.
Honorees include Hillary Clinton, Michael J. Fox, Denzel Washington, Bono, Lionel Messi, and George Soros. Posthumous awards are being given to Robert F. Kennedy, Fannie Lou Hamer, Ash Carter, and George W. Romney.
Other recipients include Magic Johnson, José Andrés, Ralph Lauren, Anna Wintour, Bill Nye, Tim Gill, David Rubenstein, and George Stevens Jr.
The awards will be presented at the White House, honoring those who have made significant contributions to the U.S., world peace, or other public endeavors.
Established by President John F. Kennedy in 1963, the Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the U.S.
