By Zoila Palma: A temporary U.S.-China agreement to cut tariffs has given online retail giants Shein and Temu a 90-day window to restock U.S. warehouses, despite no reinstatement of the duty-free de minimis rule for small packages, Reuters report.
Tariffs on most Chinese goods were reduced from 145% to 30%, allowing companies to ship bulk goods at lower cost.
“This is great for Shein and Temu… to replenish their U.S. inventory,” said Yao Jin, supply chain professor at Miami University.
Both companies are expected to shift from air to container shipping to adapt to rising costs.
Temu has already begun emphasizing products stored in U.S. warehouses as it moves away from direct shipments from China.
