By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The U.N. World Food Program (WFP) has issued a warning about the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, stating that immediate action is needed to prevent famine.

Severe restrictions on aid have exacerbated the situation, with ongoing Israeli military operations hindering humanitarian access, Reuters report.

WFP noted that the entire region is at risk of famine, particularly as conditions worsen in northern Gaza.

The agency has 94,000 tonnes of food ready in Egypt and Jordan, enough to feed 1 million people for four months, but logistical challenges and limited entry points into Gaza have prevented delivery.

Since Israel took control of the Rafah crossing in May, humanitarian aid has been severely restricted, with only 5,000 tonnes entering Gaza this month.

The WFP highlighted the need to address issues such as approval for trucks and delays at checkpoints to improve aid flow.
