International News: U.K. porn company with address in Belize introduces new age checks

By Breaking Belize News Staff:  A porn company fined £1 million for failing to comply with the UK’s Online Safety Act has begun implementing stronger age-verification systems, according to Ofcom.

The regulator announced last week that AVS Group Ltd, which operates several adult websites, had not put in place the “highly effective” age-assurance measures required to prevent children from accessing explicit content.

Since the ruling, Ofcom says AVS has introduced an age-check method on some platforms that is capable of accurately determining whether a user is a minor.

Despite this progress, AVS still faces potential fines of £1,000 per day until age-assurance systems are properly deployed across all its sites.

According to the BBC, AVS is linked to TubeCorporate, an adult-content publishing platform registered to an address in Belize that appears to serve as a mail location for numerous companies but does not house a physical office.

The regulator declined to comment on whether AVS has since made contact, citing the ongoing nature of the case.

The controversy comes amid wider debate over the effectiveness of the UK’s new age-verification requirements, introduced in July under the Online Safety Act.
