By Zoila Palma: Today, police identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah as the suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, Yahoo reports.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announced the arrest, saying investigators believe Robinson acted alone and that a family member’s tip helped bring the case to a swift conclusion. “We got him,” Cox told reporters as he confirmed the capture.
According to law enforcement briefings, Robinson’s father became convinced his son matched photos released by investigators and confronted him, asking, “Tyler, is this you?”
The elder Robinson then worked with a family friend and a youth pastor connected to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals, leading to a statement by Robinson that he reportedly made during that conversation.
When urged to surrender, Robinson allegedly said, “I would rather kill myself than turn myself in,” before being taken into custody late Thursday evening.
Investigators say they uncovered extensive evidence tying Robinson to the shooting, including social media posts, and recovered a high-powered rifle believed to be the weapon used.
The FBI had offered a reward of up to $100,000 and received thousands of tips during the manhunt. Kirk’s body was flown to Arizona on Air Force Two, and President Trump and Vice President JD Vance have said they plan to attend services expected next weekend.
