By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Two US military planes carrying expelled Guatemalan migrants landed in Guatemala on Friday, AFP reports.
The first flight, arriving around midnight, carried 79 Guatemalans, while a second flight arrived in the morning.
The White House announced a large deportation operation had begun, with 538 arrests and hundreds deported by military aircraft, calling it “the largest massive deportation operation in history.”
While the Guatemalan government did not confirm if the deportees were part of the operation, a Pentagon source confirmed the repatriation flights from the US to Guatemala. The deportees were taken to a reception center in the capital, away from the media.
President Trump has pledged a tough crackdown on illegal immigration, including deporting “criminal aliens” and reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” policy for asylum seekers.
