By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Former President Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump is now the 45th and 47th President of the United States and only the 2nd President to serve non-consecutive terms.
Trump’s path to victory was solidified by crucial wins in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina, all key swing states.
He also leads the popular vote with 51% of returns, as Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada continue counting.
World leaders have already begun offering congratulations including El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele.
“Congratulations to the President-Elect of the United States of America, Donald Trump. God bless you and guide you,” Bukele said.
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed a desire to work together again, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it “history’s greatest comeback.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also congratulated Trump, emphasizing the continued strength of international relations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Trump shortly before Wisconsin was called.
Election results are still pending in several states, but Trump’s path to victory is clear.
