By Zoila Palma: U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Sunday for rejecting his offer to deploy U.S. troops to combat drug cartels in Mexico, accusing her of being too afraid of the criminal groups.
“She’s so afraid of the cartels she can’t walk,” Trump said, confirming he proposed the idea during a recent call.
Sheinbaum responded firmly, saying she told Trump, “Sovereignty is not for sale,” and insisted cooperation must respect national borders, AP reports.
The clash highlights rising tensions over U.S. demands for stronger action against fentanyl trafficking, even as Trump expands military efforts along the southern border.
