By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders on his first day in office, quickly advancing his agenda, NBC reports.
Key actions included declaring a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, resuming construction of the border wall, and halting diversity programs in federal agencies.
Trump also signed an order to end birthright citizenship, a move likely to face legal challenges.
Among other executive actions, Trump reinstated his “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy, designated cartels and migrant gangs as terrorist organizations, and withdrew the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement.
He also signed orders freezing new regulations, creating a new Department of Government Efficiency, and cutting government spending.
Trump’s orders also targeted gender and diversity policies, reversing Biden-era changes like allowing gender-neutral passports.
Other notable moves included a “national energy emergency” to boost U.S. drilling, renaming Alaska’s Denali back to Mount McKinley, and revoking security clearances for several former intelligence officials.
