By Zoila Palma: U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran remains in effect, despite both countries allegedly violating its terms shortly after it began.
Speaking before departing for a NATO summit in the Netherlands, Trump said he was “not happy” with either side.
He claimed both Iran and Israel had fired weapons after the ceasefire began, but emphasized that the situation was under control following his direct call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The ceasefire, brokered by the U.S. with help from Qatar, was meant to end nearly two weeks of deadly conflict, CBS reports.
However, missile attacks reportedly resumed within hours.
Israel accused Iran of launching rockets after the agreement, killing four in Beersheba. Iran denied the strikes, calling Israeli claims false.
Despite the uncertainty, Trump stated that Netanyahu had agreed to halt airstrikes, and that no further escalation would occur “as long as both sides hold their fire.”
