By Zoila Palma: U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Cuba’s communist government is under unprecedented pressure and predicted that it will fall during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.
Trump said his administration is seeking what he described as a “fundamental change” in the situation on the island, Reuters report.
“My administration is also seeking a fundamental change in the situation in Cuba, where the communist regime is under great pressure—the biggest pressure they’ve ever been under,” Trump told world leaders. He described Cuba as an “absolutely failed State” and said it was “failing like never before” and would fall.
Trump then declared: “Communism will never be coming to America, but freedom will be coming to Cuba.” The remarks came as his administration continues its pressure on Havana, while the United States maintains a trade embargo against Cuba that has been in place for more than six decades.
The Cuban delegation walked out of the General Assembly hall while Trump was discussing Cuba.
