The order mandates that government identification documents reflect this binary classification.
This move is part of a broader effort to undo Biden administration policies promoting racial equity and LGBTQ+ rights, Reuters report.
Trump rescinded multiple executive orders aimed at supporting racial minorities and protecting gender identity and sexual orientation. His actions also include repealing measures to support Black, Hispanic, Native American, and Asian American communities.
The move to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies and limit transgender rights sparked swift opposition from civil rights groups.
Advocates vowed to challenge Trump’s actions, calling them a setback for equality and progress on racial and gender issues.
The changes also include halting federal funding for “gender ideology,” a term often used by conservatives to oppose LGBTQ+ rights.
