By Zoila Palma: At least 10 people were killed and more than 40 injured Monday when a freight train slammed into a double-decker bus in central Mexico, authorities said.
The crash happened as the bus attempted to cross a railway line near Atlacomulco, outside Mexico City, BBC reports.
Surveillance footage showed the train striking the bus operated by Herradura de Plata.
The impact tore off part of the bus’s roof and shattered its front. Victims included seven women and three men, while several of the injured remain in critical condition, according to the state attorney general’s office.
Canadian Pacific Kansas City, which operated the train, expressed condolences and urged drivers to respect railroad stop signs to avoid “tragic situations.”
Both companies said they are cooperating with investigators.
The crash is the latest in a series of deadly bus accidents in Mexico.
