By Zoila Palma: Temu and Shein, two popular e-commerce retailers known for their ultra-low prices, announced they will raise prices for U.S. customers starting April 25.
The move comes in response to new tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, including a 145% import tax on most Chinese goods and the elimination of a duty-free exemption for items under $800.
Both companies cited rising operating costs due to changes in global trade rules, AP reports.
While details of the price increases remain unclear, the impact could be significant for American shoppers who rely on the platforms for affordable clothing, electronics, and home goods.
The tariff crackdown threatens the business models of these China-linked retailers, who have dominated social media with aggressive ad spending—though both have recently cut back on marketing.
Despite the changes, Temu and Shein urged customers to shop while current prices last.
