By Zoila Palma:  Temu and Shein now face major tariffs after the U.S. closed a key trade loophole, but experts say the Chinese e-commerce giants aren’t going anywhere.

The end of the de minimis rule — which exempted imports under $800 from duties — means shipments from China now face tariffs up to 120% or flat fees.

In response, Temu stopped direct shipments from China and shifted to U.S.-based warehouses.

Shein is expanding production to other countries like Mexico and Vietnam, CNBC reports.

Despite rising prices, analysts believe both companies will stay competitive thanks to their agile supply chains, local partnerships, and still-low pricing. “If prices go from $1 to $2, it’s still a dollar store,” one Temu executive said.

Experts argue the companies’ success goes beyond the loophole, pointing to smart logistics, fast fashion strategies, and their ability to adapt quickly in a tough retail climate.
