International News: Taiwan Trade delegation continues Tariff talks in Washington

Posted: Wednesday, July 30, 2025. 8:56 am CST.

By Zoila Palma:  A Taiwanese trade delegation remains in Washington, D.C., for ongoing talks with U.S. officials over potential tariffs, sources told Reuters.

The discussions follow President Donald Trump’s proposal in April to impose 32% tariffs on Taiwanese goods—later paused for 90 days.

Taiwan’s government confirmed that negotiations are ongoing and emphasized the importance of strengthening Taiwan-U.S. economic ties based on mutual benefit.

The talks aim to protect national and industrial interests, as well as public health and food safety.

Led by Vice Premier Cheng Li-chun, the delegation’s visit is seen as critical for Taiwan’s export-driven economy and its efforts to secure a stronger position in global trade amid increasing geopolitical pressures.
