By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Tens of thousands gathered at Taipei City Hall on Tuesday for the city’s annual New Year’s Eve countdown, highlighted by a six-minute fireworks display atop the iconic Taipei 101 skyscraper.
The show, themed “Team Taiwan” and “Champion,” celebrated Taiwan’s victory at the WBSC Premier12 baseball championship in Tokyo in November 2024.
Before the fireworks, a light sculpture show by artist Bernard Chang featured likenesses of eight prominent Taiwanese athletes from the 2024 Summer Olympics and the Premier12 event.
New Year’s Eve celebrations also took place across Taiwan, including in New Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, with pop concerts and fireworks to welcome 2025.
